Drum Surface Down Light — technical dimensions

The Drum mounts on the surface of the ceiling instead of inside it. No hole is cut, so it goes onto concrete slabs, exposed roofs and rented premises where the ceiling cannot be touched — and its 120° beam spreads a soft, even wash across the room.

Lumen output varies with CCT. All three wattages are 65mm deep.

When a surface fixture is the answer

Recessed downlights need a false ceiling and space above it. Where there is neither — a concrete slab, a shop with an exposed roof, an office where the ceiling cannot be opened — a surface drum gives the same light with nothing more than two screws and a wire.

They are also chosen deliberately in open ceilings, where exposed ducting and services are part of the design and a visible fixture suits the look better than a hidden one.

Choosing a wattage

Because the beam is wide, spacing matters more than wattage. The 7W suits corridors, bathrooms and small rooms; the 18W is the usual choice for bedrooms and offices; the 24W covers larger areas or higher ceilings where fewer fixtures have to light more floor.

All three are 65mm deep, so they project the same distance into the room whichever wattage is chosen. Only the diameter grows.

Drum or cylinder?

Both mount on the surface. The Drum is a shallow, wide disc with a 120° beam that lights the room. A cylinder light is a deeper, narrower body with a tight COB beam that picks out a wall or a display.

Use the Drum for general light on an unfinished ceiling, and a cylinder where something specific has to be lit.

Build

LM80 certified LEDs, a BIS approved driver with built-in PFC and up to 4kV surge protection, and a powder-coated aluminium die-cast housing. Protection covers short circuit, open circuit, over voltage, under voltage and 440V input. Available in black and white.
